Problem

In 2018, a major supply chain management firm began using pymetrics to identify candidates for their Package Handler role. Previously, the hiring processes had involved submitting a traditional online application, followed by brief interviews. The firm was previously experiencing significant turnover and long time-to-hire.

Solution

To establish the “success profile” for a Package Handler, 381 current employees were identified to complete the pymetrics assessment. These individuals were chosen according to tenure with the company.Through discussions with pymetrics’ industrial-organizational (I/O) psychologists, the employer opted to use the pymetrics assessment in lieu of its former evaluation process for the purpose of testing. During the initial pilot, approximately 20,000 candidates across 44 locations completed the pymetrics assessment.

Results

Prior to the introduction of pymetrics to this firm’s employment process, over half of people who began a Package Handler application did not submit it. After implementing pymetrics, the firm saw a 31% increase in the completion rate.

In terms of efficiency gains, use of the pymetrics assessment helped the firm reduce the duration of the hiring process by 59%. An estimated 1,800 interview hours were also saved during the 4-month pilot.

After the study period concluded, candidates that had not been recommended by pymetrics were compared to those that had been deemed a strong fit. Most notably, pymetrics helped the employer identify Package Handlers who stayed in their roles for 10% longer. The employer also saw small decreases in termination rates (4%) and first-day no-show rates (0.5%).
